Tokyo Toy Museum: a great playroom for kids and babies

The Tokyo Toy Museum is an engaging indoor playground at a former elementary school located in Yotsuya. It’s near the Tokyo Fire Museum, a free place great for kids which you can read about on my other post.

The Toy Museum has a collection of over 10,000 toys and games you can play with from all over the world. You need to reserve in advance and tickets cost ¥1,100 for adults and ¥800 for children, babies 5 months and under are free.

Most people spend about an hour and a half to two hours at this museum.

Inside the Toy Museum

As you approach the former elementary school, you can park your stroller at the designated area because you’re not allowed to bring it in.

Second Floor

You’ll first arrive on the 2nd floor (out of 3 floors) where there’s a shop and the reception.Once you show your QR code you received when reserving online, there are three rooms on this floor that you can explore. The good toy gallery room with award winning toys, the special exhibition room displaying the history of toys and at the end is the toy forest room where everything is made out of wood from all across Japan.

Third Floor

There are four rooms on the 3rd floor. The Yellow Room has toys and activities where you can pretend to go shopping, farming and play instruments. It was really cute.

The Red Room has a lot of Japanese play culture, and you can play various games. In the Game Room, you can play some board games, and had a lot of  adults enjoying the different games. Finally the Factory where you can make your own toy!

First Floor

The first floor has a baby wood open space for those aged 0-2 years old and parents of course (however older siblings are not allowed). To use this room, we had to reserve a specific ticket that allows you to enter this room.

I used the nursing station in this room, but you can use the benches in the corridors and even rent out capes for breastfeeding, if you’d like!

The staff are in red aprons all over the museum. They play games with you and explain the displays. You can also ask them any questions and they were more than happy to help.

It was a fun place to go with my 2 year old and 6 month old!

Check out a video of our time at the museum below 🙂
